Landscapes - Kathy Fahey
In 2016 Kathy commenced an artist residency at Caritas Christi Hospice, St Vincent's Hospital, Kew. This residency encouraged her to continue to develop a theme that she had been working on for several years, the importance of the natural world in expanding and enriching our daily lives. The work in this exhibition depicts remnant native bushland, waterways, birdlife, parks and gardens and landscapes in and around Melbourne.
The paintings in this exhibition are vibrant renderings of colour, light and form in the landscape, and a celebration of the very act of painting and making art. They are not photo-representative but rather an artist’s interpretation of the natural world, slightly abstracted and expressive but still recognisable glimpses of green spaces. The ceramics and the artist book are for the artist another surface or medium to explore this theme, either painterly or stylised depictions of the natural world. The work in this exhibition is a reflection of how the artist sees and experiences the landscape. It is also a reminder to the viewer of the wealth of remnant bushland and parklands in our environment and the importance of protecting these natural spaces in an ever changing world.
